School Excursions

Tarzali Lakes extends an exciting opportunity to all schools. We invite you for a day of educational and fun filled activities. A growing number of schools are already enjoying our facilities and hospitality.

School groups of up to 35 students can participate in activities such as fishing, platypus and fresh water turtle spotting, plus educational programs that demonstrate the life cycle of various aquaculture species such as barramundi, perch, redclaw and eels.

We provide guided tours and can assist students in each activity. All equipment is available on site. All you need to do is bring your hats, sunscreens and smiles. Our restaurant can provide healthy lunches and snacks that can be made to order for your group.

Nominate your school fundraiser:
To assist your school's P & C fund raising efforts, Tarzali Lakes will donate $1 for every student (and accompanying family member) that nominates his or her school upon a return visit to the aquaculture centre. Your school will need to register with us in order to direct donation payments.

Free family fishing voucher:
We are also pleased to offer your school a complimentary Family Fishing Gift Voucher (value $130) to be used for your next fund raising activity. Please contact us to receive your voucher.

Program & Activities

At Tarzali Lakes, we endeavour to make the students’ visit a highly educational and interactive experience. Programs can be tailor made to suit any special interest:

  • SRO FSH (001A/ 002A) This Education Queensland Outdoor Recreation approved. program provides instruction on how to catch a fish, remove it safely, gut and fillet according to safe food guidelines.

  • Aquaculture science: Students learn in a practical environment about aquatic life cycles, feeding, scientific breeding and fish farming techniques in an environmentally friendly setting. Students may be invited to handle live eels, fish and redclaw.

  • SOSE: Students will benefit from learning about the commercial aspects of aquaculture, the ecological impact on dwindling ocean resources and environmentally sensitive fish farming techniques.

  • Recreational fishing: Explanation of the role of recreational fishing in a sustainable environment. The thrill and excitement of fishing can be a fun component of health and physical education.

  • Platypus sighting: Several of these marvelous mammals share a secluded spring fed dam. Our staff will inform students about this uniquely Australian creature. Take the opportunity to see these rare animals in their natural habitat.

  • An Accredited Nature Reserve: Tarzali Lakes is fortunate in hosting over 130 different bird varieties, tree kangaroos, possums and other fauna. Guided nocturnal tours are available.

  • Macadamia plantation: A plantation of 600 macadamia trees has survived the ravages of cyclone Larry in March 2006.

  • Restaurant and Smokehouse: We can provide reasonably priced, healthy hot and cold snacks and beverages at the Smokehouse Café overlooking our largest lake. Our in-house smoked fare is enjoyed by all our visitors. Specialties include smoked barramundi, perch and redclaw.
